Untitled Sound Sculpture (Work in Progress)
One of my current projects includes an eight foot tall interactive sound sculpture. It will be made entirely of mild steel except for the circuit design and electronic elements which will drive the sonic component. The sculpture will have resonant panels that will have piezo elements to convert the mechanical and acoustic vibrations into an electrical impulse that is processed and amplified. The sculpture will also have transducers that drive the sculpture to function as a physical filtering mechanism. This way, the input sound takes on the sonic qualities of the structure itself. The piece will also contain a circuit that produces frequency and timbre material based on the capacitance of whatever moves near it. This means that if the piece is being manipulated by musicians, performers, or the public, the varied body chemistries of these people will draw out different sonic qualities from the sculpture.
Untitled Instrument (Work in Progress)
I am currently building an instrument made of mild steel with high carbon steel tines which will be adjustable to create a variety of pitch material. It will have small magnetic transducers to act as pickups to amplify the sound of the tines as well as a piezo element inside the sculpture to amplify the resonance carried throughout the piece.
